Tuscany day 6 - pizza, sunshine and a historic town

Another fabulous day in paradise today. Hot and sunny with a bit of a breeze on occasion with clear blue skies. 

Sadly it was also the day Dani and Amy left us, they did manage a few hours of pool and spa relaxation (spot the bodies on loungers in the pool shot above) before we set off to Arezzo for their train station run - a route we know well now. 
Energetic people in our mix managed a great deal of exercise - Paul and Karen went for a run round the hills then Paul ran in Arezzo later in the day. Libby walked uphill 6kms from our villa to the castel of Carda, checked out the market, picked flowers and engaged with the locals before walking back down. Dan took a long bike ride from the Villa's hilly position as well. 
While they were all gone Ali supervised Don, Amy and Dani cooking us all a wonderful brunch. Sam studied and I worked a tiny bit in the sunshine this morning. 

Arezzo is an interesting town. I must research what industry sustains it. There is an old walled city which blends into a newer then modern more sprawled city. The older city is narrow with low rise buildings. Interesting to look around. 

Steve and I needed an ATM which took a while to find one our card could work in. Luckily 3 men can read a map and locate one for us. 

We met up with Paul and Libby in a cute wee bar before the convoy returned to the villa. Was lovely in the sunshine. 

Tonight we have ventured into our local village Castel Focognano for dinner in a beautiful pizzeria. Wow. So much food. So much fun. Sam and I were treated so very well with vegano and sensa glutane yum. Everyone else OMG. So much food! The 1.5km walk back up the hill is very necessary tonight!

And we’re off. 19th of April 2024.  Koru lounge for a wine before our first of 3 flights today Wellington Auckland. First confession, we checked in our carry on bags. Second confession, mine weighed 10kg’s and Steve’s weighed 8kg’s - hopefully those extra kg’s are taken up with gifts to lavish on Karen and Paul so we’ll be under before we head back - we think AirNZ is the only airline we’re travelling who limits you to 7kg carry on.   Anyway. Welcome to our blog. Who knew we used to blog, at some stage we moved away from this and started sending emails but with so many of you asking for photos I decided to blog this trip. Also gives me something to do on travel days, which there are many of - trains, planes and ferries.  It’s been fun reading our UK 2016 travels. Sadly that was the last time we saw Mary who lost her battle with brain cancer earlier this year. It's a bit cold in Milton Keynes

Kia ora koutou from very cold Milton Keynes. Our first day here in the UK so this is a pretty short blog post. We stayed up til after 10pm successfully last night but struggled to get up this morning so Paul left for the marathon without us - and as we failed to get up til 9am we ended up watching the race from the comfort (and warmth) of the couch. Paul was pacing a friend who was running a 2hour 45 race today so had a relaxing time and apparently went for an extra few kms running around the place but had fun and brought a medal home.   Our 3 flights over were ok, we didn't get our upgrades - actually only 1 person got an upgrade and the couple who were offered that one seat described it as a marriage test choosing who (he took the seat). Shanghai airport has changed heaps with noodle bars and tea / coffee shops alongside the many duty free shops now. But their crazy entry processes have not changed so the first hour was queuing and temperature checks (which I passed thank goodne

London - Tuesday Netball, dinosaurs and thunderstorms

I plan to write a while blog on dinosaurs so this one will just contain a few pics of those. Late start again followed by lunch with Don in our now regular Wimbledon haunt The Loft - loving this roof bar although we sat inside due to rain.  Post lunch Don returned to work full of yummy food and we hopped on a bus heading to Harrods. Fortuitous timing as a massive thunderstorm unleashed for our journey, wicked rain we were very lucky to be sheltered from. Our plan had been to hop off and walk over Putney Bridge, instead we hopped off, took pics and hopped on our next bus immediately.  Our next plan had been to go to Harrods but when the bus was crawling along making little progress we hopped off at the V&A, popped into the loos there then decided to go see dinosaurs. That thought was short lived when we saw the queue - wowsa- so next plan was walk up to see the Royal Albert Hall then walk to Harrods.
